Lake County Pound Puppies Take Long Journey

On Tuesday, July 24, 2001, two fifteen-month-old Newfoundland mix brothers started a journey that would change their lives.  Actually their lives were changes in June when their owner relinquished them to the Lake County Animal Control.  Lake County Animal Control Officer Amy Bush contacted the Lake County Pet Adoption League (P.A.L.) about the two dogs, and the ball started rolling.  They were first put on P.A.L.'s website at www.lcpal.homestead.com, and on P.A.L.'s Petfinder site at www.petfinder.org/MI03.  The sites included descriptions and photos of the dogs, Panda and Patches.
Contacts were also made with breed specific rescue groups, but none of the purebred rescues wanted to help with mixes.  Until one rescue person, Trudie Davidson, saw the boys and decided she had to help.  She made a web page about the dogs, and contacted many people about their plight.
Trudie put P.A.L. in contact with a wonderful rescue person named Beth Boyett.  She works with Miss Sally Banks and their rescue is called Miss Sally's Bark and Breakfast.  Unfortunately, Beth lives in Memphis TN.  Beth agreed to take the dogs in if we could get them to her.  She had a trainer waiting and willing to work with the dogs to help make them more adoptable.  We had a volunteer willing to make the trip, and the dogs were readied for the trip.  They were vaccinated, neutered, and heartworm tested.  The day they were at the veterinarian being neutered, the transport volunteer canceled.  Things ground to a halt and some involved got very discouraged.
Once again, P.A.L. members worked on contacting people and trying to find a ride for these two wonderful dogs to this great rescue person in Tennessee.  Well, their persistence paid off.  Ann Botsis of West Michigan Companion Animal Rescue in Holland and Tessa Harvey of Doggies Travlin' For Love in Baldwin volunteered to take the boys to their rescue mom.  As this article is being written, they (dogs and women) are on their way to Memphis.
CONGRATULATIONS PANDA AND PATCHES!!
